Hugie, was a gracious sister-in-law and friend, was the first person to accept the fact that I was now Pauline's partner in life. I have never forgotten this and will remember it as long as my mental faculties remain in tact.
Hugie welcomed me into her home and her family. Pauline and Hugie were always in touch personally and on the phone, passing on their tidbits of information regarding their families and each others lives, with the details being passed on to me.
Hugie was always inviting, offering sustenance and a smile whenever we happened to drop in, most of the time unexpectedly. It was never a concern for Hugie. A smile and "Come on in".
It would have been preferable if Hugie had been able to be with us for a lot longer but circumstances and a deadly disease dictated otherwise.
Pauline and I will miss Hugie. Our feelings of love are with you Hugie.
For Hugie's family and relatives, may I suggest the following.
Don't cry because it's over
Be happy because it happened.
Some of you may have heard this before and I would like to repeat it now.
Hugie, may you have a fair wind and a following sea.
